STATE TESTING REQUIREMENT

In addition to the 120 credits, students are also required to meet the state’s testing requirement. As a district, we follow the guidelines provided by the state, as outlined in the link below.

NJ Department of Education Testing Requirements

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students cannot exceed 12 absences for a full year course, 6 absences for a semester course. Once a student exceeds 12 (or 6) absences, the student will be placed on a no credit status. This means although students may have a passing grade for a course, they do not have enough seat time to award credit for the course.

Letters will be sent home to notify you about excessive absences. To prevent loss of credit, please provide appropriate documentation (i.e. doctor’s note), when applicable.

Once a student is placed on no credit status, you may receive an invitation to attend a meeting of the Attendance Review Panel at which time the student’s case will be discussed. At this meeting, the Panel will formulate an initial recommendation regarding the student’s credit status.

NJ FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION GRADUATION REQUIREMENT WAIVER

Under P.L.2023, c.295, to receive a high school diploma, a student in the graduating classes of 2025, 2026, or 2027 must:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the New Jersey Alternative Financial Aid Application, or
  • Be exempted from the requirement in accordance with procedures outlined in the law.

This must be completed regardless of whether your student will attend college or not.

To ensure that we are fulfilling this requirement, a form will be created in Genesis Parent Portal in your student’s senior year for you to complete. Two separate forms will be created - one for parents of students under the age of 18, and one to both parents and students who are 18 or older. All Genesis accounts will be locked until the form is completed.

If a student is under 18 years of age, the student’s guidance counselor may authorize a waiver if one cannot be reasonably obtained from the student’s parent or guardian.
