Cherry Hill School Age Child Care (SACC) FAQ
The Cherry Hill Board of Education operates a tuition-supported before and after school program in the elementary schools for children from kindergarten to grade 5.
Trained professional staff members provide a safe and stimulating environment where children are allowed to grow and learn life skills. The program focuses on teaching social skills through free play; low organization games; group activities including arts and crafts, music, drama and dance; quiet time for homework, reading, and table games.
The programs provide nurturing care and education in a responsive, caring environment for children . Our curriculum helps children master age-appropriate tasks at each stage of individual development. Social, emotional, physical, and cognitive activities are integrated into all aspects of the curriculum. Children's development is encouraged through play and exploration of process-oriented rather than product-oriented activities.
SACC operates from 7:00 - 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. on days when Cherry Hill elementary schools are in full session. Child care is available on most half day sessions and most school holidays. SACC also operates a Summer SACC program.
Any child residing in Cherry Hill Township is eligible. Preference is given to children enrolled for 5 days a week. Children on a part-time (no less than two days per week) schedule will be considered on a space available basis only.
The SACC Program operates at all Cherry Hill elementary schools.
If children participate in a quality school age care program, working parents can rest easy because they know that their children are in a safe, supervised and respectful environment.
The tuition fee, as noted on the tuition icon is an annual tuition. Parents contract for a school year of child care service and pay ten (10) installments. At registration a non-refundable registration fee of $30.00 per family is due. Tuition payments are due on the 1st of the month beginning on August 1st. Tuition fees for partial participation are available upon request.
Play and spontaneous exploration are fundamental to childhood and essential for learning. An NAEYC publication states, "through play children explore their world, find out how they get along with others, test their skills and muscles, try out new ideas, and feel confident enough to try different activities." At our programs, children are given the opportunity for many different kinds of play. Much of what happens in the daily life at the programs provides the context for learning experiences: hellos and good-byes, eating, resting, keeping clean and comfortable, enjoying nature, learning social skills through informal and sometimes formal teaching, arts and craft activities, sports, being with friends, coping with emotional experiences, taking turns, learning good sportsmanship, and respecting others. Ultimately, the goal for each child is to develop self-esteem in preparation for a happy and productive life among peers, colleagues, and loved ones.
The Cherry Hill Board of Education requires that the School Age Child Care program must be supported fully by tuition fees. Therefore we have planned the tuition fees and payment plan to ensure that the program is self-sufficient. We are asking for a firm annual commitment from parents. In return SACC is committed to providing an excellent program for the children.
