Dear Woodcrest Family:
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! As we embark on this academic year’s journey, I wish to take this opportunity to give special greetings to those who are returning and welcome aboard those who are new to Woodcrest. It was just 7-years ago that I returned to Woodcrest Elementary─after serving as a student-teacher here nearly 3 decades ago─and I continue to feel incredibly fortunate to have rejoined this wonderful learning community!
While I commonly use the term “journey” to describe the start of each academic year, this expression now takes on a whole different meaning as we continue to plan for the fall following a truly unique school year. In June, the NJ Departments of Education and Health published a document entitled, The Road Forward which states, “While the State is committed to a resumption of normalcy for the next school year, we will be guided by science to ensure that we maintain safe and healthy school communities.” It is in that spirit that our staff and faculty will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that every student achieves to his or her academic potential. And while we have long recognized the importance of working in partnership with the home to foster a positive and safe environment that is conducive to learning, these relationships will be even more critical as we work together to facilitate this resumption of normalcy while creating the ideal learning experience for each child.
Each of us has an important role in making this a successful school year, and we look forward to collaborating with you to achieve this goal. It is for this reason that we adopted #togetherWEcan as this year’s theme!
Yours in education,
Jonathan Cohen, Principal
