A Letter from the Superintendent

A Letter from the Superintendent

Dear Cherry Hill Public Schools Community,

We are writing to share with you what was truly a remarkable day for our district, as we had the distinct honor of welcoming New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Lily Laux to Cherry Hill Public Schools.

From the moment our visit began, it was evident that this would be a special opportunity to showcase the very best of who we are as a school district and why fair funding of the district is essential. Joined by her Chief of Staff, we were also privileged to welcome Senator Beach, Mayor Fleisher and his Chief of Staff, Camden County Executive Superintendent of Schools Carmen Rodriguez, and the Legislative Director for Majority Leader Greenwald and Assemblywoman Kane. Representing our Board of Education were Mrs. Winters, Mr. Greenbaum, Mrs. Palmer, and Mrs. Cummings. In addition, members of our administrative team, the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, leadership students from Carusi and Kilmer, local labor association presidents, Zone PTA, and student journalists from HS East and HS West were all present and engaged.

Most importantly, this visit provided an opportunity to highlight what makes Cherry Hill Public Schools so exceptional: our students.

Throughout the day, the Commissioner experienced our district through the voices and perspectives of students across grade levels, from PreK through grade 12. They shared their learning, their ideas, and their lived experiences in ways that reflected the full diversity, strength, and promise of our community. It was inspiring to see our students lead with confidence and authenticity, and to witness firsthand the powerful learning environments that exist throughout our schools.

Dr. Laux was genuinely enthusiastic in her reflections. She spoke with great admiration, and she was especially struck by the sense of connection that defines Cherry Hill Public Schools and the strong relationships between students, staff, families, and the broader community. Her feedback affirmed what we know to be true: that our collective commitment to supporting each and every student continues to make a meaningful and lasting impact. Most importantly, it was made abundantly clear that the financial support of the NJ Department of Education is essential in providing our students with the quality education that they deserve.

Days like today serve as an important reminder of the work we are doing together and the pride we share in our schools. They also reinforce the importance of continuing to center student leadership, building strong partnerships, and ensuring that every child in our district has access to engaging, relevant, and inclusive educational experiences.

Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership.

Dr. Kwame R. Morton, Sr.,  Superintendent
Mrs. Gina Winters, President, Cherry Hill Board of Education
