Incident at Cherry Hill High School East

Incident at Cherry Hill High School East

Dear Cherry Hill Public Schools Community,

I want to address today’s incident at Cherry Hill High School East. A security and safety threat was discovered at High School East earlier this morning and a shelter in place was initiated, as per Department of Education and district protocol.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Cherry Hill Police Department advised that the building be investigated further.

Students at High School East were temporarily relocated to High School West to allow for further investigation and were dismissed from High School West at 1:30 p.m. All students and staff are safe.

I want to be crystal clear on this next point. Whomever is responsible for the threat that occurred today will be punished swiftly and accordingly. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.

Thank you to Mr. Finkle, Dr. Burns, and the staff of High Schools East and West for their poise and execution throughout the process. I am especially thankful to the students of both high schools for their cooperation throughout the day. I am always amazed at how our children consistently rise to the occasion.

I also want to thank our Campus Police and the Cherry Hill Township Police Department for their swift response.

Dr. Kwame Morton, Sr.
Superintendent
Cherry Hill Public Schools
